One living world, many ways to explore
EcoGenesis connects readable biology with the records behind it. Search for an organism, explore a group of life, study a biological process, or start with a gene or protein. Plants, animals, fungi and microorganisms belong in the same encyclopedia.
An organism page brings together its classification and available descriptions, photographs, observations, publications and molecular records. You can move between these views without losing the source identity of the organism you chose.
Read an explanation, then check the evidence
Articles explain what a structure does or how a process works. Evidence links show the source and the part that supports a statement. Map records show published finds, rather than a census of all organisms or their complete range.
Available information differs between organisms and sources. A catalogue entry can have a name and classification without a finished article, photograph or molecular link. Missing evidence stays visible.
Learn with worked examples
The Arabidopsis learning route was our first example: a plant, its leaf, photosynthesis, a gene and a protein. It is one route through the encyclopedia. Other starting points include trees and reading the worldwide observation map.
