Leaf development: shape, size and specimen

In brief

Two leaves can be compared by length, but first identify how the measurement was made and which specimens it describes. Open the image and model, check the scale and the provenance of each variant. An altered teaching shape can help explore geometry when clearly distinguished from the measured leaf.

    Activity

Open the leaf article and the available measurement model. For two variants, record paired length and width for the same source leaf, units, sample ID and source. Mark thickness and curvature according to their actual status. If only teaching variants are available, record that outcome and leave the measurement requirement incomplete. Preserve variant, model version, camera and selected part.

      Self-assessment criterion

Paired measurements describe one leaf at a common scale; measurements and teaching assumptions are separate, with missing measurements noted.
