How it works

A chloroplast is a chlorophyll-containing plastid. It contains thylakoids and stroma, with some thylakoids organised into stacks called grana.

The electron micrograph shows a chloroplast from a control Arabidopsis seedling in a particular study. The original figure retains a 1 μm scale; it does not show a spruce chloroplast.
